My name is Sandra Wickham and I am speculative fiction author, IFBB Professional fitness competitor and personal trainer.
I have always loved reading and writing, I wrote my first full length book when I was nine years old. In university I earned my degree in English and Drama, while also becoming certified as an aerobic instructor and personal trainer. After university I went to live in Whistler, BC and spent much of my time working in a gym, working out and snowboarding. I then went backpacking overseas to New Zealand and Australia, and while in Brisbane Australia I entered my first fitness competition. When I returned to Canada, I wanted to continue competing so entered a local show and won. I really have not stopped since. I earned my IFBB Pro Card in 2004 and have been competing in the professional ranks for several years.
While the training and competitions take up a great deal of time I always wanted to get back to my writing. I have recently been inspired by several podcast (I Should Be Writing, Adventures in SciFi publishing) and many sites like Critters.org to get back to devoting some serious time and effort to writing.
I think that if I can stand up infront of judges and audiences in a teeny tiny bikini and jump around doing fitness routines, I can handle the ups and downs of the publishing world! Or at least I hope that my years competing have prepared me. I am used to discipline, I am used to deadlines, I am used to being judged by official judges as well as fans.
So this is my leap into the world of writing. I am excited, I am overwhelmed at entering a whole new commumity and hopeful for great things in the fugure.
